Amarillo Glass Doctor, Mr. Rooter Compete to Support Local Ronald McDonald House

Monday, November 5th, 2012

RMHCGlass Doctor® of Amarillo is having a little friendly competition with sister company Mr. Rooter ® of Amarillo to support their local Ronald McDonald House® this fall. The shops are trying to collect the most Wish List items, food and household items, for Ronald McDonald House® of Amarillo until Nov. 21.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® gives families of children receiving treatment at local hospitals a comfortable place to stay during a stressful time. Donations allow the House to focus on the most critical, day-to-day needs of the families of the children undergoing treatment. Items needed include everything from individual size snacks and frozen dinners to postage stamps and laundry detergent. The community is encouraged to donate.

“We decided to take part in this with Mr. Rooter because both of our companies have benefited from the Ronald McDonald House,” Brandy Hall of Glass Doctor of Amarillo said. “We are asking customers, employees, family, and yes us as company to donate!”

On Sept. 24, Noah Weisgerber, son of one of Glass Doctor of Amarillo’s former employees, was born at Cook’s Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth and needed immediate surgery. The family has been staying there since Noah’s birth.

Prior to his birth, doctors knew Noah would need surgery immediately. Glass Doctor sold raffle tickets for Texas Rangers tickets, a gift card and a hotel stay to help pay for the Weisgerber family’s medical bills.

“We don’t really have a set goal; just to beat Mr. Rooter and collect as much stuff as we can,” Hall said. “We just wanted to give back to such a wonderful organization.”

Holly and Larry Nieman

Glass Doctor raised $3,280 to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) during an auction at The Dwyer Group® 2011 Reunion held Oct. 19 – 22 at the Indianapolis JW Marriott.

Glass Doctor President Mark Dawson auctioned off decorations and props from the conference to franchise owners.

“We had just heard from a Ronald McDonald House® representative about ways to get involved with the Charity, and we were inspired,” Dawson said. “The results of the impromptu auction are a testament to the big hearts of the entire Glass Doctor team.”

Glass Doctor of Tulsa, Okla., owner John Vestring had the highest bid of $80 for a Glass Doctor banner. For a second banner, Marv Degerness of Glass Doctor of Fargo / Moorhead, Minn., paid $200. Larry and Holly Nieman of Glass Doctor of Central Arkansas received custom dice, hats and other props for their high bid of $2,000.

Following the Niemans’ impressive bid, Dawson offered to match the donation to $1,000 from the Glass Doctor corporate office, making the entire donation $3,280.

Glass Doctor and five of its sister companies in The Dwyer Group (Aire Serv® Air Conditioning and Heating, The Grounds Guys®, Mr. Appliance®, Mr. Electric® and Mr. Rooter®) are national supporters of RMHC. As part of their support, franchise owners continue to donate their services, labor and supplies to Ronald McDonald Houses in their respective service areas. The Ronald McDonald House program provides a home-away-from-home so families can stay close by their hospitalized child. The 309 Ronald McDonald Houses across the globe allow families to face the weight of an illness together.
